Founded in 1986, AIDS Alabama was originally known as AIDS Task Force of Alabama. It offers various services to people infected with HIV and AIDS, including housing, rental and financial assistance and a variety of other supportive services. The agency provides various housing programs and most of its programs are funded by Alabama s AIDS services organizations. Its Next Step program is a transitional housing program for HIV-positive, low-income and homeless people that aims to empower consumers with the skill sets necessary to find and maintain permanent housing. It provides transportation services to all residents of its housing programs and offers free presentations to social clubs, organizations, schools and businesses. AIDS Alabama is based in Birmingham, Ala.
