History
WEIO was started in 1961 to bring the Native groups of Alaska together to carry on age old traditions and share their cultures with the community. The event was a huge success and has become an annual event in Fairbanks. WEIO has grown over the years and now draws Native athletes and dance teams from around Alaska, Canada, the lower 48 states, and Greenland. Spectators also come from around the world to learn about Native culture, dance, art, and witness this unique event.
