History
The ACTION Council of Monterey County, Inc. was created to address the reduction in government funding for health and human services for low-income and vulnerable people. Our goals are to create public/private partnerships to promote economic and social justice; to initiate community dialogue and action on critical issues; to provide a focal point for achieving community transformation and to develop resources to facilitate needed change. Our name represents our role in the community. ACTION is Advocacy, Community Transformation, Incubating, Organizing, Networking. We conduct our work in four principal areas of focus: Program Incubation, Community Building, Research and Evaluation and Fiscal Sponsorship.
Specialties
The ACTION Council's goals presuppose a strong commitment to educate and inform funding agencies, public policy makers and the community on issues that impact Monterey County in order to initiate needed change. We have partnered with both public and private agencies to successfully produce systems change, and are actively invited to take a leadership role in planning for and implementing such transformation. We have achieved considerable success in identifying community needs, fostering community partnerships and developing new projects when our involvement can make a critical difference. We lend our passion, creativity, expertise, leadership and resources to achieve sustainable programs and then set them free. When the ACTION Council gets involved, positive change happens.
