The City of Alameda was incorporated on April 19, 1854. The current City Hall, located on the corner of Oak St. and Santa Clara Ave., was dedicated in 1896, and in its early years contained the police department, a library, the city jail, as well as a gymnasium and city offices.
Today, city departments housed at City Hall include the city manger's office, the city attorney's office, the city clerk's office, records, payroll and human resources, and information technology.
City Council meetings are held in the third floor Council Chambers on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
