The American Red Cross Bay Area chapter is a 24-hour response unit for local disasters. This chapter would be alerted by the fire department in case of a flood, mudslide or house fire. It receives a house fire call at least once a day. The chapter offers disaster servises for San Mateo County residents, as well as other areas, if needed.
Disaster services also responds to families that have been displaced due to a fire or other disaster, and provides short-term lodging, comfort kits and resources in order for these families to acquire basic needs. It also helps provide those families with strategies for long-term recovery.
