The Arhoolie Foundation is located in the same building as Down Home Records. Even though they share the name of Arhoolie, The Foundation is an independent non-profit organization. Created in 1995, the mission of the Foundation is to "document, preserve and disseminate traditional and regional vernacular music." Many well-known musicians are on the Advisory Board for the Arhoolie Foundation such as Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt and Linda Ronstadt. The goals of the Arhoolie Foundation include preserving traditional music -- commonly exploited by mass culture. Another project is maintaining and preserving the large Strachwitz Frontera collection of Mexican-American Archives and Vernacular. It also acquires artifacts and donations of artifacts related to the mission of preserving such contributions.
