The Bay Area School of Enterprise (BASE) is one of the newest secondary charter schools in Alameda and the first "youth-initiated" charter high school in the country. The learning approach is hands-on and self-motivated—with small-class sizes, emphasizing real-world experience, college preparation, counseling and leadership opportunities. Its goal is to foster young leaders to affect positive change in the community and on a larger scale. It enrolls approximately 90-100 students per year and has been at its current location for two years. It is run by the nonprofit organization, Alternatives in Action.
