Located in Sacramento, the Board of Prison Terms, also known as BPT, is a state unit that is a part of the Board of Parole Hearings, which establishes the terms and conditions of parole for several people sentenced in California. The board also conducts certification, placement and parole revocation hearings for offenders with mental disabilities. The Board of Parole Hearings offers investigation services related to pardons and commutations of sentences. In addition, the board is comprised of the Youth Authority Board and the Narcotic Addict Evaluation Authority. It suspends and revokes the parole of people who have violated parole. The Board of Parole Hearings additionally offers supervision services.
