Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are proudly owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity affiliates, and proceeds are used to build homes, community, and hope locally and around the world. We're committed to offering high-quality items at discounted prices. Our ReStores only accept gently used donations to ensure the integrity of our inventory. Habitat's strong relationships with local businesses and donors allows us to acquire high quality and top-of-the-line items and materials, and price them at up to 70% off retail! Through the selling of donated construction and home related items, we aim to 1) Increase the number of homes built by Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley for low-income families. 2) Divert 7,000+ tons of waste each year from landfills. 3) Provide quality home improvement items to the general public at discounted prices. History Established in 2014. Habitat for Humanity opened the first Bay Area ReStore in 2003 and have grown our footprint to three locations: Oakland, Concord, and San Jose. In 2012, two major Bay Area Habitat affiliates merged to form Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley and, as one of its first initiatives, the new unified affiliate opened a ReStore in San Jose. The new store originally operated out of a temporary location in a small downtown warehouse where it collected and sold donated items until the larger, permanent location was ready. This permanent location opened in 2014 at the San Jose Environmental Innovation Center (EIC). The EIC, in partnership with the City of San Jose, houses several environmentally friendly organizations and is a great fit for the ReStore and its efforts to keep usable items out of landfills.
