The Headlands Institute is a member of Yosemite National Institutes, a private nonprofit organization dedicated to providing environmental education to young people, teachers and communities throughout the western United States. The Yosemite Institute was established almost a quarter of a century ago in Yosemite National Park. The Headlands Institute followed in 1977 and the Olympic Park Institute opened in Olympic National Park in Washington in 1988. Together the institutions have served more than 300,000 participants. The Headlands Institute and Yosemite National Institutes have a long-standing commitment to make environmental and field science programs available to the diverse, multicultural communities in which everyone lives. To serve these communities, a special needs fund provides scholarship assistance to students, schools and youth groups. This fund is sustained through revenues from several sources, such as conference revenue, group scholarship fees, retail sales and charitable support. The Headlands Institute is located in Sausalito, Calif.
