Dr. Nimisha K. Parekh is a board-certified UCI Health gastroenterologist who directs the UCI Health Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program. A specialist in the treatment of inflammatory and irritable bowel diseases, she takes an integrated approach to helping patients manage their condition. Parekh earned a medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Tulane Medical Center Hospital. She also completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Tex., followed by advanced training in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease at the University of Chicago Department of Medicine. Her research interests include outcomes in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, clinical trials for new drug therapies to treat IBD, women’s issues and the role of ethnicity in disease outcomes. She also is actively involved in the training of GI fellows, residents and medical students. She received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the gastroenterology fellows in 2009 and has been fellowship program director since 2011. She also serves as the School of Medicine's associate dean of faculty development. Parekh is co-director of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America-Orange County Chapter. She also is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
