The Orange County Sanitation District is a public agency established by the California state legislature. It has been in operation for more than 50 years. The agency, located in Fountain Valley, Calif., is responsible for the safe collection and treatment of wastewater. It serves nearly 2.5 million people in central and northwestern Orange County, Calif. The agency beneficially reuses and recycles the treated wastewater and other resources through various treatment processes. It treats nearly 250 million gallons of wastewater each day. The Orange County Sanitation District s facilities include more than 550 miles of sewer pipes. Additionally, the agency conducts several environmental programs, including air quality, biosolids, compost and environmental management system programs. Its air quality program is designed to build and promote communication with the local, state and federal agencies in developing air quality regulations and achieve their implementation.
