History
Founded in 1956 and incorporated in 1963, California Aquatic Therapy & Wellness Center, dba Pools of Hope is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated to providing therapeutic aquatic and wellness programs to the community. The organization began as a grassroots effort by a dedicated civic leader Evelyn duPont to promote swim lessons to children with special needs as a means of rehabilitation. Originally operating out of the founder's backyard pool, the organization gained a substantial following and, with widespread support from the community, the fledgling organization purchased a new facility in North Long Beach. Programs continued to grow, serving a broader cross-section of the community including the elderly, adults with physical and intellectual disabilities as well as children with special needs.
