The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art opened in 1935 as the SF Museum of Art; the emphasis on "Modern " art was not added until 1975, and the museum's forward-thinking dedication to imagination has made this one of the most exciting art museums in the world. The collection of more than 20,000 articles includes a diverse mix of exhibits, including paintings and sculpture, architecture, photography and furniture. The museum is undergoing expansion which will conclude in early 2016. In the meantime, check the website for off-site exhibits.
