History
I began teaching folk music full-time at the historic 5th Fifth String music store in Berkeley in 2006. I soon became the primary bluegrass and old-time banjo, mandolin and guitar teacher teaching thousands of lessons at this Berkeley folk music institution. After the 5th String closed in 2013, I moved to a new teaching studio in the same building that the 5th String was located in.
Specialties
I teach beginner, intermediate and advanced folk, old-time and bluegrass banjo, mandolin, ukulele and guitar lessons in the East Bay area. I have a private teaching studio near the Ashby BART station with off street parking that provides a relaxed atmosphere where students can feel comfortable learning and exploring their instrument. My teaching style is nonjudgmental and encouraging. No matter what level you are at, I will work with you at your own pace to help you express yourself through music.
