XEI Scientific produces radio frequency plasma cleaning systems for electron microscopes and vacuum systems. Its Evactron brand cleaners remove atmospheric molecular contamination, oils and other hydrocarbons from electron microscope interiors by a plasma-activated reaction that produces oxygen radicals from admitted air. This process eliminates contaminated scans, improves resolution, maximizes X-ray sensitivity and cleans specimens. These cleaners are used for hydrocarbon and organic contamination control in vacuum systems as well. Since XEI Scientific was founded in 1991, it has installed more than 200 Evactron anti-contaminators worldwide. XEI Scientific maintains its headquarters in Redwood City, Calif.
