Colorado Housing & Finance Authority is focused on helping people and businesses succeed. CHFA was created in 1973 by the Colorado legislature to address the shortage of affordable housing in the state. Since then, the association has established itself as the front-runner in the affordable housing industry by financing single-family mortgages for qualifying homebuyers and supporting developments of apartments for low and moderate income residents. In 1982, when Colorado had economic difficulties, it began making loans to small and medium-sized businesses. CHFA is a responsible advocate of affordable housing and small business issues for the Colorado community. Since 1973, the organization s financing has served every county in Colorado by financing mortgages, helping sustain and support jobs and financing and allocating tax credits for residential rental units.
