History
The Howes family legacy in the piano business dates back to the late 1800s. My great-grandfather, EA Howes, came from a large family of dairy farmers located in Waukon, IA. Each child in the family received 5K as a gift to start their own dairy farm, but, due to his health, EA took his money and decided to go to piano tuning school in 1898 because his dream was to open a piano store. He spent years perfecting his craft tuning and selling pianos. In 1918, due to his health, EA needed to live in a drier climate. He packed up his family y and moved to Colorado. And so our story here begins... My grandfather, JL Howes, decided to follow in his father's footsteps and go into the piano business. He taught piano tuning to students at the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind and opened Howes Piano Company, a piano store in Denver on West Colfax in the 1960s. My father, Ed Howes, also became a piano tuner and continued on with the family business.
