Western Area Power Administration markets and delivers hydroelectric power and related services within a 15-state region of the central and western United States. It is a power marketing administration of the Department of Energy. The agency markets and transmits electricity from multiuse water projects. Western Area Power Administration s transmission system carries electricity from over 55 power plants operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and International Boundary and Water Commission. It markets and delivers approximately 10,000 megawatts of hydropower from power plants at federal dams to rural electric cooperatives, municipalities, public utility districts, and federal and state agencies. The agency provides point-to-point transmission and network integration transmission services. Western Area Power Administration additionally offers renewable resources, as well as provides operation and maintenance services.
