Established in 1959, the Granby Department of Police Services works to preserve peace and deter crime through the enforcement of local, state and federal laws. It serves to regulate traffic and investigate motor vehicle collisions. The department operates a communication center that responds to police, fire and medical emergencies. The Granby Department of Police Services maintains an animal control division that handles cases of animal nuisance and relocates missing and stray animals. It undertakes cases of accident reconstruction, dive rescue, narcotics investigation, and crisis and hostage negotiations. The department also has a Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team and maintains a sex offender registry. The Granby Department of Police Services is recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). It is located in Granby, Conn.
