An international Christian organization, the Salvation Army is best known for evangelical, social and charitable work. It has a quasi-military structure and operates in more than 120 countries. The Army's headquarters are in London.
The Middletown facility provides disaster services; emergency food and financial assistance; family counseling; worship services for children, teens, young adults, men and women; youth services including camping, character building and latchkey programs; and religious education.
The local facility also has a clothing room open to the public Mondays through Wednesdays and gives out breads and cakes Tuesdays and Thursdays. It also does Christmas baskets for Middletown residents that include toys for children 12 and under.
