The association holds biannual conferences and maintains a Web site that provides resources for firefighters that want to protect government funding to firefighters and fire departments. The association also seeks to inspire dialogues among fire departments for varying locales for the purpose of sharing knowledge, strategy and technology that can advance the effectiveness of firefighting everywhere. The association, which maintains an office in Washington, D.C., publishes surveys of pensions for the purpose of keeping fire departments benefit packages competitive. The IAFF compiles data on firefighter health care plans.
