Established in 1983, the International Republican Institute is a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization campaigning freedom and democracy through political parties, civic institutions, open elections, good governance and the rule of law throughout the world. The organization deals with the voter education, electoral reform, election monitoring and youth leadership development programs. It additionally offers good governance practices, civil society development and women's leadership development programs. Its funding comes from the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. State Department and the National Endowment for Democracy. It also receives grants and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. The International Republican is located in Washington, D.C., and has various offices in more than 40 countries, including Albania, Angola, Burma, Cambodia, China and Colombia.
