U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is located in Washington, D.C. The organization is one of the service divisions of the Department of Homeland Security. It is responsible for the administration of immigration and naturalization adjudication functions and establishment of immigration service policies and priorities. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services performs a variety of functions that include adjudication of immigrant visa petitions, naturalization petitions, and asylum and refugee applications. The organization is also responsible for adjudications performed at the service centers. It employs more than 15,000 federal employees and contractors in nearly 250 offices around the world. The organization supervises the functioning of various immigration benefits, including citizenship, lawful permanent residency, employment authorization, intercountry adoptions and foreign student authorization.
