Apalachee was organized in 1948 as the Human Relations Institute of Leon County and has since expanded to include offices in seven surrounding counties. The Center is a private, nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer citizen board of directors. Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the Center provides treatment through an interdisciplinary systems model of service delivery within the framework of a philosophy of recovery for adults and resiliency for children and adolescents, with recognition of each person's uniqueness and individuality. Its employees include psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, social workers, counselors, addictions professionals, nurses, case managers, behavioral specialists and mental health assistants. Apalachee Center has its corporate offices in Tallahassee.
