Lawnwood Regional Medical Center is a subsidiary of HCA, also known as the Hospital Corporation of America, which owns and operates more than 170 hospitals and nearly 110 freestanding surgery centers in the United States, England and Switzerland. The corporation provides health care services designed to meet each community's local health care needs. It focuses on streamlining operations; sharing technology, equipment and personnel; and using economies of scale when contracting for medical supplies and administrative services. Dr. Thomas Frist and Jack C. Massey founded the Hospital Corporation of America in 1968. It became a public company in 1992. Lawnwood Regional Medical Center maintains a location in Fort Pierce, Fla.
