The Richey Suncoast Theatre is rich with history and filled with stories of survival and perseverance. The theatre originally opened in 1921 and at that time, it was the Palms Theatre, owned by J. S. Jackson. War and economic conditions made it a debacle of the times. Many said it was there before its time while others talked about the lack of need in the area. However, that did not stop the sounds, lights, laughter, and tears that found their way on the stage. At times, there was even the need for a local church to have their spill over mass assemblies utilize what was then the Cinema Theatre.
Today, the Richey Suncoast Theatre boasts local talent and actors from abroad hosting shows of all ilks. Musical comedies, Christmas pageants, a local favorite annually, Drama events that rival none for local theatre are all a part of the diverse offerings here in New Port Richey, on the corner of Grand Boulevard and Main Street.
