This neat stone church sits on a beautiful and tidy lawn on the corner of Clairemont and Erie avenues, just beyond the borders of downtown Decatur. Lutheran Messiah was established in Atlanta in 1932 and moved to Decatur in 1946.
Today, Lutheran Messiah is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Lutheran Messiah stresses the importance of doing good in its community; the congregation participates in numerous local charitable organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, a boys ranch for troubled youths, a soup kitchen and programs to assist homeless newborns and their families.
