Archdiocese of Chicago was established as a diocese in 1843 and became an archdiocese in 1880. Located in Chicago, it serves more than 2 million Catholics in Cook and Lake counties in northeastern Illinois. It is spread on an area of more than 1,000 square miles. Archdiocese of Chicago s archbishop is supported by various advisors, the vicar general and the chancellor who coordinate parish life, central services and responsibilities of the archbishop. It is also supported by the Administrative, Presbyterian Council, Archdiocesan and, Consejo Pastoral and Archdiocesan Financial Council.
