Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery was established in 1979 at Proctor Hospital in Illinois. The institution provides mental health, and alcohol and drug addiction treatment services to men, women and adolescents. Its programs include residential treatment, drug and alcohol therapies, alternative educational programs, counseling, and intensive individual, group and family therapies. IIAR has also developed a specialized gambling program for treatment and counseling for compulsive gamblers and their families, and its staff members also provide training for professionals interested in becoming certified gambling counselors. The institute organizes intervention training workshops and speakers bureau for public education, and publishes Paradigm, which is a 24-page magazine for professionals and individuals interested in addiction-related subjects. Its staff includes certified addiction counselors, psychologists, nurses and physicians. IIAR has a more than 12,000-square-foot facility in Normal, Ill.
