The Circuit Clerk is a state constitutional officer who works under the government of Madison County, Ill., and is elected by the public for a four-year term. The clerk is an administrative officer of the judicial branch of Illinois. He or She is the keeper of the records and funds of the circuit court and is responsible for the filing and processing of various cases. The Circuit Clerk maintains a civil section that performs duties related to injunctions, real estate mortgage foreclosures, partnership dissolution, partition, will contests and construction of testamentary trusts. He or She also maintains family, criminal, family, juvenile, and probate and mental health sections. The Circuit Clerk maintains an office in Edwardsville, Ill.
