Susan M King D.M.D Susan McFarland King is a native of Huntington, West Virginia, and spent her childhood in Louisville. She attended Vanderbilt University, the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville, where she received her dental degree in 1985. Dr. King completed a one-year General Practice Residency at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in Lexington, KY in 1986. Dr. King maintains a private dental practice in Radcliff, where she has practiced since 1987. From 1995-97, She was a part-time faculty member of the Elizabethtown Community College Dental Hygiene Program. Dr. King was also a part-time faculty member of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry from 1996 through 2007. From 1999 through 2003, Dr. King was the Director of the Advanced General Dentistry Residency Program at University of Louisville School of Dentistry. She is Past President of the Hardin County Dental Society, a past member of the Faculty Advisory Board for the Elizabethtown Community Technical College Dental Hygiene Program. In 2007, Dr. King was inducted as a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Fraternity, an honorary dental society was established in 1914 to promote and recognize scholarship and character among students of dentistry. Dr. King has been the Dental Director of the Community Health Clinic of Hardin and Larue County since its inception in 2002. She has a part-time faculty appointment at ULSD, where she served as Clinical Program Developer for the Ryan White CBDPP, a federally funded program that provides access to dental care for HIV-positive patients from a geographic area including Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee. In July, 2006, Dr. King was named Volunteer of the Year for the Community Health Clinic of Hardin and Larue Counties. The Community Health Clinic is a group of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, and other community and civic leaders, who established a comprehensive care clinic in 2002. The clinic provides access to medical, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and dental care for the working poor of Hardin and surrounding counties. The clinic is completely staffed by volunteer clinicians, and is funded entirely through private donations. The award of Volunteer of the Year recognizes Dr. King's contribution of establishing a dental clinic to provide dental services for patients of this clinic, and her ongoing efforts to organize dental volunteers as well as providing dental care for disadvantaged citizens of Central Kentucky. In July 2008, Dr. King was appointed by Governor Steve Beshear to serve as a member of the Kentucky Board of Dentistry. This 9-member board is responsible for regulating the practice of dentistry within the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She received a 4 year appointment from the Governor, with her term expiring in July of 2012. She resides in Elizabethtown with her husband John Ashcraft, a CPA and partner of Stiles, Carter and Associates, and her four children Katie, Evan, Ben, and Claire. She is an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Elizabethtown, and is also the President of the Central Kentucky Association for Gifted Education. She enjoys gardening, reading, knitting, and entertaining her grandson, Jacob.
