Originally founded in the early 1960s by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Special Olympics has grown to become an international sports program for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics activities in Westminster are coordinated through the office at Carroll Springs School, which is directly overseen by the main office for Carroll County Special Olympics in Sykesville. It provides year-round activities for children and adults in sports such as cycling, golf, equestrian events, track and field, basketball and many more. Volunteers are always encouraged and welcomed, and potential volunteers are highly encouraged to email or call for more information and upcoming local events.
