Prince George's Department of Assessments & Taxation, from its office in Upper Marlboro, Md., is responsible for valuing and listing all taxable property within its jurisdiction in Prince George s County in Maryland. It is a government agency of the Maryland Department of Assessments & Taxation. In Maryland the valuation of all real and personal property for purposes of property taxation is a function of State government. The Director of Assessments & Taxation, appointed by the Governor, administers and enforces the property assessment and property tax laws of Maryland. This organizational structure allows for uniformity of property assessment throughout the State. Prince George's County surrounds Washington, D.C., and has a population of more than 800,000 residents.
