The Middlesex Sheriff's Office, established in 1643, is a law enforcement agency that promotes public safety, identifies and solves criminal cases and safeguards citizens rights. It offers a week-long youth public safety academy program at no cost to the residents of various communities. It conducts various K-9 and fire safety house demonstrations, fingerprinting programs, police and fire department tours, and teamwork and self-confidence courses. The Middlesex Sheriff's Office also operates community counseling centers that monitor parolees, probationers and former inmates and provide them with guidance, education and training. With a location in Cambridge, Mass., the office has a victim service unit that assists with inquiries on status of inmates, securing protective orders, safety planning and crisis intervention.
