Established in 1976, NEADS is a nonprofit organization that offers pets for individuals with hearing and physical disabilities. It trains all breeds and mixed breeds dogs and provides donated puppies. The organization provides hearing dogs who respond to sounds such as a smoke alarm, baby crying, doorbell and alarm clock. NEADS offers services dogs that are trained to open refrigerator and doors, push elevator buttons, turn light switches on and off and carry items in their mouths or backpacks. Additionally, it provides instructors training for students and organizes group tours of its facility. The organization also conducts various events, including golf tournaments and buffet dinners and auctions. NEADS maintains the national campus in Princeton, Mass.
