Founded in 1985, Community Health Awareness Group is a community-based organization serving high-risk and HIV infected African Americans throughout Metro Detroit by providing a variety of HIV prevention, care, substance abuse and mental health services. Based in Detroit, Mich., it is one of the largest minority AIDS service organizations in Michigan. The agency has expertise in outreaching the individuals with high-risk behaviors, including those already infected with HIV. Community Health Awareness Group provides HIV education, rapid testing, clean syringes and condoms, assistance in accessing drug treatment and immediate access to care for those testing positive for HIV. It has partnerships with Michigan Department of Community Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Minority AIDS Council and HIV/AIDS Alliance of Michigan, among others.
