G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility is operated by the Michigan Department of Corrections, which is administered by the State of Michigan. The facility is spread over an area of more than 100 acres and features sealed concrete flooring, pole barns, weatherized buildings and plaster board walls. It coordinates various vocational training, general education development, and special and adult basic education programs. Established in 1985, G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility also provides medical and dental care services. Additionally, it features surveillance camera systems, perimeter towers, and acoustic sensing and electronic detection systems for security. The Michigan Department of Corrections is responsible for public protection and the maintenance of prisons and detentions facilities in Michigan.
