Apple Valley Police Department offers various programs and services to the residents of Minnesota. The department offers programs, such as child passenger safety, crime prevention, and neighborhood watch. Apple Valley Police Department also provides family group conference that is an alternative to court prosecution for first-time juvenile offenders. It also sponsors an eight-week citizen academy to residents and business people. Topics covered under the academy, include drunk and drugged driving, school programs, domestic assault and investigations. In addition to lecture presentations, participants ride with an officer, participate in and observe the arrest process, and experience mock traffic stops. The police department also runs special programs for school children, such as teaching drug education and prevention, shoplifting and violence prevention, civil rights and responsibilities, and health and ethics. The department is an active participant in the Safe Streets First program that assists the first judicial district in holding repeat drunk driving offenders.
