History
The Turf Club is a restaurant, bar and music venue in St. Paul, Minnesota. Originally a dance hall in 1945, since the '90s the Turf Club has been a popular music venue for local bands. The club has also become an important venue for national and international touring acts. Japanese indie-rock band Shonen Knife played its 1,000th show, a set of Ramones covers, at the Turf Club. The Turf Club was sold to the owners of First Avenue in late 2013. The venue has a capacity of about 300. The Clown Lounge, in the club's basement, hosts a smaller bar, restaurant, and performance space. The Turf Club is located on University Avenue near Snelling Avenue and across the street from the Snelling Avenue Green Line light rail station. In 2014, the club received a substantial remodel, including the addition of a brand new scratch kitchen and daily food service.
