Overview of The Women's CenterFounded in 1979, the mission of The Women's Center is to promote the individual and collective empowerment of the diverse community of women and girls in the Triangle.The Women's Center serves over 4, 500 individuals from Orange, Durham, Chatham and Wake counties each year. Utilizing a small staff and a network of dedicated volunteers, we strive to provide an atmosphere of trust and acceptance.The Women's Center's services and programs are funded in part by the Triangle United Way, the Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough, and Orange County. Funding also comes from the state of North Carolina. The Women's Center depends on individual contributions, program fees, and special events such as Tea with Lee and Through Women's Eyes, by Women's Hands.Many of The Women's Center's services and programs are free, and those with fees are available on a sliding scale basis. No one is turned away due to an inability to pay.
