The Morris Plains Borough Police Department has 3 divisions:
- The Patrol Division handles criminal activity, accidents, traffic, fire and other community service needs.
- The Detective Bureau follows up on crime investigations started by the Patrol Division and starts its own investigations. This division is responsible for evidence, records and reports.
- The Support Division takes care of the department's administrative needs.
An illustration of the department's activity-level can be seen in the statistics from the month of August, 2010, when the department handled 2,679 calls, which included 25 arrests, 27 motor vehicle crashes and 258 motor vehicle stops.
