Lynn Morchel founded Caring About The Strays in 1995 after seeing many animals left behind in her apartment complex when tenants moved. She took in a few on her own and realized it needed to be done on a larger scale. She enlisted help and has been at the Westwood location ever since. Individuals can donate a variety of items to be resold with all proceeds helping homeless animals. The beneficiaries are typically cats and dogs, but other animals have also been rescued, including a New York City carriage horse. Shoppers can look through all the items on display and see some cats that live in the store as they wait for permanent homes. The non-profit holds Sunday adoptions in Nyack, NY and hosts fund-raisers throughout the year. Volunteers are always welcome. Call or e-mail care4strays@optonline.net for details.
