Jason Garcia
Jason P. Garcia, MD, specializes in sports medicine, shoulder and knee surgery, surgical and nonsurgical treatment of fracturess and dislocations and general orthopedics.Dr. Garcia has a particular expertise in treating shoulder and knee conditions. The most commonly treated shoulder conditions include rotator cuff tears, labral/SLAP tears, biceps tendon tears and shoulder dislocations and instability. Knee conditions include anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears, collateral ligament tears, meniscal tears, cartilage lesions and tendon ruptures.Dr. Garcia is a former Team Physician for the San Diego Padres Baseball Team, San Diego State University, and University of California at San Diego athletics. Currently, he is a consultant for various local high schools and enjoys treating athletes at all levels, from recreational to professional.Dr. Garcia says, As a former competitive athlete and current weightlifter and Crossfit athlete, I can relate to my patients when injuries occur and understand how important it is to get them back in the game as quickly as possible. I chose orthopedics because it allows me to help injured patients return to and maintain their activities and quality of life. It is especially satisfying when my patients tell me they can continue the activities they love as a result of my treatment. He adds, I consider all aspects of a patients situation, including physical findings, lifestyle, level and type of activity, and his or her expectations when determining a treatment plan. My goal is to help patients with the least invasive approaches possible.Dr. Garcias research is focused on shoulder injuries in the throwing athlete and biological approaches to tendon and bone healing. He is the co-author of articles, abstracts and book chapters that are published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Orthopedics and has lectured regionally and nationally on these topics. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Amerian Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and Arthroscopy Association of North America.Dr. Garcia is a recipient of the UMDNJ- New Jersey School of Medicine Deans Letter of Commendation for Clinical Excellence and while Chief Resident of orthopedics he earned the Resident Teacher of the Year Award. He has been featured in NJ Top Docs and the New Jersey Monthly Top Doctors listing multiple times and is the recipient of the MDx Medical, Inc., Patients Choice and Most Compassionate Doctor Award.When he is not working, Dr. Garcia enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 sons, who are very active playing football, baseball, hockey, lacrosse and basketball. Dr. Garcia also enjoys coaching, weightlifting, Crossfit training and playing the drums.
