Academy of the Holy Names, located in Albany, N.Y., is a Catholic, college preparatory school for young women and provides education to students in prekindergarten through grade 12. The academy operates elementary, middle and high schools. The high schools curriculum includes English, mathematics, science, social studies, and foreign languages with a choice of French and Spanish. The academy s high schools also offer courses in journalism, advertising, art and photography, computers and technology, the Internet, theology and physical education. Additionally, the academy offers its students guidance in preparing for college, and health and wellness programs. Academy of the Holy Names also has a library and media center providing a large collection of literary sources. The academy also offers the Peer Education program that teaches communication and leadership skills. It also offers various sports activities, such as soccer, cross country, basketball and tennis. Academy of the Holy Names is approved by the University of the State of New York Board of Regents and Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The academy was established in 1884.
