Rabbi Meyer, Goldie Fendel and a small group of individuals founded the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County in 1953 after recognizing the lack of Jewish education in the area. HANC is comprised of four campuses, located in Plainview, West Hempstead and Uniondale. This building serves as the academy's headquarters and houses the Samuel & Elizabeth Bass Golding Early Childhood Center of West Hempstead. Similar to the center in Plainview, it educates youngsters in early reading, and prepares them to learn how to write in English and in Hebrew. As a whole, HANC educates more than 1,200 students each year in nursery through high school, who come from 50 communities throughout Long Island and Queens.
