Dr. Pooja R. Shah is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra, and is board certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology. She is also the Director of Women s Skin Health & Wellness at Northwell/Katz Institute for Women s Health.Dr. Shah graduated as class salutatorian from the Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Hunter with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Behavioral Neuroscience, as well as double minor in Biology and Religious Studies. She was one of ten immigrant students selected nationwide based on her academic record and leadership potential to receive the Merage Foundation Fellowship for the American Dream, which allowed her to pursue higher education. She earned her medical degree with distinction in Community Service and Global Health from the University of Rochester School of Medicine.Dr. Shah completed her preliminary internship in Internal Medicine at the North Shore University Hospital & Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where she was bestowed with the 'Intern of the Year' award. She concluded her residency training in dermatology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where she was recognized as a 'Strong Star' by patients for providing compassion, respect, and exceptional health care. She also served as Resident Co-Director for the medical student education curriculum, as well as Resident Liaison for the Women's Dermatologic Society. Furthermore, she was a recipient of the Women's Dermatologic Society mentorship award, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery resident scholarship, and Advanced Resident Training & Education in Dermatology scholarship.Dr. Shah's clinical and research interests include medical dermatology, procedural and surgical dermatology, women's skin health, integrative dermatology, and skin of color. She is an active member of national professional organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, LearnSkin, and International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease. She has published numerous articles in the peer-reviewed literature, served as ad-hoc reviewer for prominent dermatology journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, as well as given talks at local and national dermatology conferences.Dr. Shah is dedicated to improving access to dermatologic care and patient education, participating in community service, enhancing resident and medical student training and education, supporting physician wellness initiatives, and fostering mentorship in medicine and beyond.
