Spread across a number of buildings along 2nd Street, Dover Publications was founded in 1941 by Hayward Cirker and his wife Blanche. Primarily a reprinter of classic, out-of-copyright works, Dover is also well known for its educational titles including mathematics, science and engineering texts. Dover has approximately 7,000 titles in its catalog. One of the publisher's best selling titles was Albert Einstein's "The Principle of Relativity." Dover was also one of the first to issue books in the paperback format in 1951, later becoming the industry standard of the trade paperback. The vast majority of titles Dover publishes are in paperback format. For a time, Dover was also the publisher of classical sheet music, phonographic LP records and public domain images. Following Hayward Cirker's death in 2000, Dover was acquired by the Courier Corporation.
