Established in 1977, The Hunger Project operates grassroots level programs to empower men and women to feed themselves. The organization operates various programs that focus on influencing the development policies of governments, multilateral institutions and development agencies. The Hunger Project works in partnership with grassroots people in Africa, Asia and Latin America to develop effective strategies to tackle the problems of hunger and starvation. It strives to achieve its mission by empowering women, forging partnership with local governments and mobilizing people at the grassroots level to build self-reliance. The organization maintains various centers throughout the rural areas of Africa where women and men are trained to create and run their own programs to meet basic needs.
