The Center for Health Affairs creates business and policy solutions to optimize the resources of its members and customers. It is a vital partner with its member hospitals in creating a thriving and innovative community of healthcare providers. Throughout the decades, it has worked to maintain a balance among competing health providers by pursuing issues, developing special projects and creating solutions that serve the interests of all. In the 1950s, CHA created one of the country's first defined benefit retirement trusts, enabling hospitals to work together to invest and safeguard hospital worker pension benefits. Ten years later, the focus was on the challenges of implementing the new Medicare and Medicaid programs and on seeking solutions to the nursing shortage that had hit hospitals during that time.
